Mayor of London meets with London Mosques, Imams and Community Leaders at the Islamic Cultural Centre

8th May 2012

In the first ever meeting of its kind the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson had a private meeting with all the London Mosques, Imams and leaders of Islamic Organisations. This historic event was hosted at London's central and most recognised Mosque, the Islamic Cultural Centre. This is the first time a meeting of such scale had been organised.

The purpose of this meeting was to encourage dialogue and bridge building between the wider Muslim Community and Central Government. Mosques are focal points in our communities and it was therefore essential that the Muslim communities take an active and responsible role.

Director General of the Islamic Cultural Centre Dr Ahmad Al Dubayan said: "We are happy to host such an important and historic event. We have invited key delegates from each Mosque in London. This is a great opportunity for the communities' key stakeholders to engage with the Mayor about important issues which affects all the communities within London."

After a guided tour, the Mayor of London held a session of question and answers and also spoke about the positive contribution made by the Muslim communities in London
