Condemnation of the genocide and ethnic cleansing being committed against the Rohingya community in Myanmar

18 September 2017

The Islamic Cultural Centre & The London Central Mosque Trust condemn in the strongest possible terms the genocide and ethnic cleansing which is being committed against the Rohingya community in Myanmar in the recent weeks.

The Islamic Cultural Centre's Director General Dr Ahmad Al Dubayan - called on the Myanmar Government to end its ongoing evil military operation, with full accountability for all violations that have occurred and to reverse the pattern of severe and widespread discrimination against the Rohingya population where over three thousand people have sadly lost their lives and over 400,00 people have been forced to leave their homes.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Mr Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein has said Myanmar's treatment of its Muslim Rohingya minority appears to be a textbook example of ethnic cleansing. The U.N. High Commissioner also noted that the Myanmar has refused access to human rights investigators.

We are pleased to hear that Britain is to suspend the training programme it operates with Burma's military until the campaign of violence against the Muslim Rohingya minority is called off, Theresa May said "We've seen too many vulnerable people having to flee for their lives."

Boris Johnson, the foreign secretary, said last night that the violence was driven by race. "It is an appalling way to treat innocent people and I am afraid it is driven by racial prejudice. If it looks like ethnic cleansing, it is best to draw that conclusion".

We call on all the communities within the United Kingdom and internationaly to stand up against terrorism no matter where it is in the world and to do its utmost to stop the genocide of the Rohinhya people from taking place.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Rohingya people, their families and communities. May Allah protect them all.
