Qatar UK Year of Culture 2013

8th - 10th March 2013

In celebration of the Qatar UK Year of Culture 2013, the Minister of Culture, Arts & Heritage His Excellency Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari and the Ambassador of the State of Qatar His Excellency Mr. Khalid Rashid Al-Hamoudi Al-Mansouri hosted a weekend of cultural events at Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London.

The event included traditional art, poetry, seminars and discussion sessions aswell as a number of displays showcasing the rich culture, arts and history of Qatar.

His Excellency Mr. Khalid Rashid Al-Hamoudi Al-Mansouri is also the Chairman of the board of trustees for The London Central Mosque and The Islamic Cultural Centre.

Rt Hon Ed Vaizey MP & Minister for Culture said, "I am very excited by this initiative and welcome the opportunity to build on the already strong relationship the UK shares with Qatar. Qatar UK 2013 will celebrate the best of our two nations, showcasing the finest we have to offer in the fields of culture, art, sport and education while looking to the exciting new opportunities for the future."

Graham Sheffield, Director Arts, British Council, accompanying Minister Ed Vaizey said, "Qatar is a dynamic supporter of arts and culture, and I am delighted that the British Council is a partner in this exciting programme alongside the UK sector and key Qatari institutions. Sharing innovative ideas and practices from both sides, building new audiences for the arts, and developing creative talent across society are at the heart of Qatar-UK 2013 Year of Culture".
