Celebration of the international Arabic Language Day
London Central Mosque has arranged some activities in celebration of the UNESCO's Arabic language day on Saturday & Sunday 18 & 19th January 2020.
The activities included:
Exhibition on the curricula of teaching Arabic & Islamic studies.
Palestinian Bazaar selling traditional clothes and famous dishes.
Arabic calligraphy & arts exhibition including pieces by the students of the calligraphy class in the centre.
Book and teaching resources stalls.
The opening ceremony started on Saturday 18th January at 3pm and consisted of:
Lecture delivered by the Director general, Dr Ahmad Aldubayan, under title: Why we celebrate for the Arabic language? And the answer was as following:
- Because it is the language of the Noble Qur'an, and it is the immortal book that God brought together with it the whole nation.
- Because it is a language used by all Muslims from China to France.
- Because it is a language of world heritage, that stretches from China to France.
- Because Muslims, Jews and Christians wrote in it their literature and civilisation.
At the end of his speech, Dr. Ahmed urged parents to take care of the Arabic language and encourage their children to learn it.
Lecture delivered by Dr Ahmad Albaghdadi, it was titled: The Role of Arabic Curricula in preserving Identity in the Muslim minority. It was summarized in the following points:
The importance of the Arabic language for the children of the Arab and Muslim minority.
The role of supplementary schools in caring for the Arabic language.
The importance of curricula and textbook in facilitating the teaching of the Arabic language.
Lecture delivered by the calligrapher Mr Behnam Ikzir about the relationship between the Arabic language and the Arabic script. He also spoke about the types of Arabic script and its schools, and how they contributed to the publication of a religious and cultural heritage for Arabs, Muslims and non-Muslims.
After that, Dr Ahmad and the Ambassador of the State of Palestine had opened the exhibition.
