The Islamic Cultural Centre was invited to an Islamic Art Exhibition being held at the Yunus Emre Institute in London.

The Turkish Ambassador spoke at the event after which Dr Ahmad Al Dubayan the Director General of the ICC gave a talk on "The Journey of Islamic Callgiraphy" The talk described the journey of Calligraphy from Makkah to Baghdad to Cairo and Damascus until finally the Turkish Great Masters of Calligraphy such as Hamdullah Amasi, Hafiz Othman, Mustafa Raqim And Abdullah Zuhdi.. until.. Shaikh Aziz Rifai and Hamid amidi, who died in 1982 and was the last of the Great Masters.



Dr Dubayan described how these constillation of calligraphers took the Arabic Calligraphy to its peak. Their works are still taken as models all over the world showing the artistic dimention of the Holy Text of the Quran.



This history made Istanbul the Capital City of Traditional Arabic Calligraphy. The Director General Dr. Ahmad Al-Dubayan thanked Dr. Mehmet Karakus the director of Yunus Emre Institute in London and H.E The Ambassador of Turkey for the invitation and for gving a chance to the lovers of art in London to enjoy this exhibition.
