Terror Attack on the Christian Community in Sri Lanka
21 April 2019
PRESS RELEASE
It is extremely sad to receive the news of the tragic events in Sri Lanka during Easter Sunday, where over 200 people lost their lives and many more were injured. The fact that the attack took place in Churches and where majority of victims were in worship at the time of the tragedy makes this event even more evil.
Dr Dubayan, Director General of the Islamic Cultural Centre London said "Everyone has a right to practice their faith in peace and safety. We are deeply shocked and saddened by this horrifying attack on the most important day in the Christian calendar."
We reiterate the words of the Prime Minister Theresa May that "We must stand together to make sure that no one should ever have to practise their faith in fear." And the words of the Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt that "Everyone has a right to practice their faith in peace, safety and security but tragedies like this, and the one in Christchurch, remind us that there are some who hate these rights and freedoms."
Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and with the families of those who lost their lives.
