The Outreach Team at UCL's Engineers Without Borders visited us at Hikmah "The Youth Project" to inspire our students to choose a career where they will be able to change the world. Their experiences enlightened our students about the experience of being an engineering student, and how the world around us has been designed and created by engineers.
They also learnt how an engineer thinks by learning about the Engineering Design Cycle. Teams were tasked with using this model to build a prototype of a "Marble Rollercoaster" out of household materials. The hands-on competition aimed to bring to life the science students are taught in the classroom.
Students realised that the best teams didn't just have technical ability, but knew how to communicate and work well as a team - much like real engineers.
