Visit My Mosque Open Day @ London Central Mosque & Islamic Cultural Centre
3 September 2022
The London Central Mosque & Islamic Cultural Centre participated in the long awaited return of Visit My Mosque day after two years due to Covid-19 pandemic.
During the pandemic, the Mosque in conjunction with many other Islamic Centres closed its doors to worshippors for the very first time in its long running history since 1944.
Visit My Mosque is organised by the Muslim Council of Britain, the largest umbrella body representing Britain's Muslim communities with over 200 Mosques and Islamic Centres participated in this year's open day.
The open day started with refreshments, tea, cake and biscuits for everyone whilst listening to welcome speeches talking about the unique history of the Centre and the services provided to the wider community. There were also tours of the newly refurbished library, exhibition halls and main prayer halls. Books were also given out for free and each group tour ended with a question and answer session.
Dr Ahmad Al Dubayan; Director General said "Visiting Centres' of faith, religion and education is paramount in todays society. Our doors are always open to anyone who wishes to visit and see the exhibition halls, however the MCB's VMM inititiative has given non-Muslims the opportunity to see for themselves how Mosques and Islamic Instutions play a vital role in community. Services such as a Library, Food Bank, Green Projects, Educational services such as language classes and suplementary school, Interfaith and school visits to name a few."
"For Visit My Mosque Day, our staff and volunteers look forward to showing visitors what it's like inside our Mosque, and answering their questions. This is a wonderful opportunity for people to understand Muslims and the Islamic faith better. We hope that opening our doors will also open hearts and minds."
